ACCC greenlights Monash IVF’s acquisition of Fertility North

A review by the commission found the acquisition would not limit competition in the market for fertility service provision in Perth.

The ACCC has confirmed it will not oppose Monash IVF Group Limited’s proposed acquisition of Fertility North Holdings Pty Ltd.

Upon reviewing the potential impact of the acquisition on the supply of fertility services across Perth, the commission ruled the deal was unlikely to limit competition in the market to supply low-cost IVF services, given the overlap in Monash IVF and Fertility North’s fertility service provision.

Monash IVF Group would also face sufficient competition from existing service providers offering low-cost services to prevent any negative impact on the market for fertility services, the review said.

ACCC Commissioner Liza Carver told media the commission would continue to oversee further acquisitions in the market for fertility services nationwide.

“Although the proposed acquisition increases concentration in fertility services in Perth, we concluded that it was unlikely to result in a substantial lessening of competition,” Ms Carver said.

“The fertility services industry has seen consolidation over recent years, and we will continue to closely monitor acquisitions.”

Monash IVF Group owns and operates several brands offering a range of specialist fertility, obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound treatments across Australia, including PIVET Medical Centre in central Perth.

Fertility North is a fertility services provider providing full-service and low-cost IVF services at Ramsay Joondalup Private Hospital in Joondalup.
