The annual awards from itNews showcase the best health projects and leaders in the country.
Finalists have been announced for the annual itnews Benchmark Awards and healthcare leaders, projects and government programs feature prominently – the ADHA has three chances to dominate.
The Australian Digital Health Agency’s my health app has made the cut in the Best Federal Government Project category, up against the myGov app (Services Australia), the AEC’s Modern Workplace program and the ATO’s Project Switch.
The app allows users to access their My Health Record from their smartphone. But, like it’s big brother MHR, the my health app has copped criticism about its cost and its low uptake.
It also gets a nod in the Best Health Project category with five other contenders:
- DPV Health – which won the 2023 Victorian Premier’s Primary Healthcare Service of the Year award – is nominated for its Healthcare CRM digital front door and single client view.
- eHealth NSW’s radiology information systems, picture archiving and communications system (RIS-PACS) stores key information, digital images and results, for instant access by public hospital-based treating teams across the state. It allows a patient’s medical imaging history to be tracked from image request through to diagnosis no matter where they are treated across NSW Health.
- Johnson & Johnson MedTech’s Ethicon2U provides online in-services session “just like if the rep was in the room”, via Zoom. Attendance can be put towards CME points.
- Indigo Australasia’s geat2GO is an Australian government initiative under the Commonwealth Home Support Program which allows older people to access devices and equipment to continue living independently.
- IRT Group – a community-owned, not-for-profit provider of retirement living, residential aged care and home care – has a falls predictor which has earned it a nomination.
ADHA’s chief digital officer Peter O’Halloran has a 50-50 chance in the Federal Government Technology Leader category, up against Radi Kovacevic, CIO of Home Affairs.
In the State Government Technology Leader category, NSW Health’s CEO Dr Zoran Bolevich is one of four finalists – Dr Eva Balan-Vnuk, executive director of the SA government, Justin Thurley, CIO of the Tasmanian government, and Chris McLaren chief customer and digital officer of the Queensland government are the others.
Epilepsy Australia’s Smart Australia Program (ESAP) is a finalist in the Best Not For Profit Project category and has a one in three shot.
In the Health Technology Leader category, John Sutherland, CIO of Hammondcare is up against Michelle Fitzgerald, the group CDO of St Vincent’s Health Australia.
The awards will be announced on 13 March.
