CALD elders get attention from new foundation

Fronditha Care has launched a charitable foundation to fundraise for culturally diverse older people needing aged care.

Culturally specific aged care provider Fronditha Care has today launched a not-for-profit charity – the Fronditha Care Foundation – aimed at fundraising to provide grant opportunities that support health and wellbeing intervention strategies for elders from CALD backgrounds.

“Fronditha Care has specialised in providing culturally appropriate care for nearly 50 years,” said Dr Stella Laletas, the inaugural chair of the Foundation.

“This is an exciting new chapter for us as we continue our mission to advance the health and wellbeing for all older Australians.”

Dr Laletas said the Foundation launch had come at an ideal time, as the Australian government and aged care sector rethink traditional models of care.

Australia has become more diverse with 30% of the population now born overseas, half with a parent born overseas.

“Australia’s attitudes towards residential aged care have shifted, with many elders wanting to age in place and accessing respite or ongoing care much later, said Faye Spiteri, CEO of Fronditha Care.

“Fronditha Care is exploring, through the work of its Foundation, innovative programs and services to support elders no matter where they are in their aged care journey.”

The Foundation will seek meaningful and innovative partnerships to deliver a range of projects, from small-scale pilot programs to large initiatives, all aimed at driving positive change within the aged care sector, according to the company announcement.

Current collaborators include Dementia Australia, the Australian and Aged Community Care Providers Association and Aged Care Research and Industry Innovation Australia.
