The insurer is the latest fund to offer members access to the six-week program via the Cardihab app.
Digital health provider Cardihab has partnered with Bupa and specialist data science and health services provider Honeysuckle Health to increase access to its virtual cardiac rehabilitation program.
Eligible Bupa members deemed suitable for the program will gain access to the six-week rehabilitation program, which offers a personalised care plan with tailored risk factor management and goal setting as well as specific clinical and weekly one-on-one calls with a registered nurse from Honeysuckle Health to monitor individual progress.
Participants also receive ongoing access to the Cardihab app for a full year following discharge from the program, with features including symptom tracking, medication management, care plan reminders and educational resources offering customised advice to improve heart health.
According to Cardihab CEO Helen Souris, cementing the partnership with Bupa was a significant step towards the organisation’s long-term goal of making access to cardiac rehabilitation programs and preventive healthcare more widely more equitable through telehealth and virtual care models.
“Establishing valuable partnerships with key healthcare stakeholders such as Bupa and Honeysuckle Health is the key to delivering quality virtual healthcare to people at the time and place that works conveniently for them,” Ms Souris said.
“We are thrilled that Bupa members can now access our digital cardiac rehabilitation program through this initial pilot.”
Bupa members who have recently experienced a cardiac event, procedure or received a diagnosis can complete a self-referral form online or phone Honeysuckle Health directly to undergo assessment for the program, currently being trialled across NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
Medibank was the first insurer to partner with Cardihab to trial its virtual, personalised rehabilitation program in November 2019, with Queensland Country Care and nib establishing their own partnerships in 2020 and 2022 respectively.
