Central oncology patient record coming for WA health service

Digital oncology solution Charm Evolution will be implemented across WA Country HS regional sites, covering more than 2.5 million square kilometres.

WA Country Health Service will roll out oncology solution Charm Evolution to streamline care between its metropolitan and regional facilities, making it the second major WA health service to implement the technology.

Charm Evolution, developed by global software company Magentus, will be delivered as a centralised oncology patient record across WACHS sites spanning more than 2.5 million square kilometres in total, including Albany, Kalgoorlie, Geraldton, Northam, Esperance, Narrogin, Karratha and Broome.

The technology aims to improve continuity of care and clinical safety across WACHS cancer services by offering real-time data reporting, more efficient data integration and information on standard protocols for cancer care across multiple clinical services and facilities.

According to Margot Mason, Charm Evolution product lead at Magentus, the transition to a fully electronic patient record across WACHS cancer services would improve compliance and speed up clinical workflows while decreasing the risk of prescribing errors.

“This is a positive example of digital innovation driving more equitable care and supporting better health outcomes,” Ms Mason said.

“Wherever patients live in Western Australia, they will be better connected with health professionals and their information will be available in more direct and efficient ways.

“We are delighted to be helping the health workforce provide accessible and quality care to people affected by cancer who are living in rural and remote areas, delivering optimal cancer care closer to wherever they call home.”

In November this year, Perth’s South Metropolitan Health Service confirmed it would be rolling out Charm Evolution across Fiona Stanley Hospital and Rockingham General Hospital in the first half of 2024.
