The oncology information management system is the first to meet the v3.0.1 ePrescribing standards, Magentus claims.

Magentus’ oncology information management system Charm has become the first to meet the Australian Digital Health Agency’s conformance standards for electronic prescribing.

“We are proud to be Australia’s first and only oncology information management system with approved ePrescribing functionality and conformance,” said Margot Mason, the Charm product lead at Magentus.

“This module delivers our customers increased workflow efficiency, patient safety and financial benefits as the prescriber does not need to be physically at the hospital to issue electronic prescriptions.

“And because the patient does not need to be physically present to obtain a prescription, this ensures continuity of care for all patients such as those requiring nausea treatment post-chemo – particularly those located regionally and rurally.”

The Magentus solution met the ADHA’s Electronic Prescribing Conformance Profile v3.0.1, aligning with Magentus’ vision to “create a healthier society through world-class technology”.

Cancer care team prescribers can now create electronic prescriptions within Charm, generating a unique electronic token that is sent directly to the patient or pharmacy where necessary.

As a secure, fast and efficient method of delivering prescriptions, ePrescribing supports digital health services such as telehealth to ensure continuity of care.

The solution also underpins improved medication safety by reducing translation and dispensing errors – extremely important in chemotherapy due to complex drug regimens and cycles.

Because ePrescribing reduces transition time between prescribing and dispensing by automatically loading data into the national Prescription Delivery Service, it helps hospital pharmacies ensure timely dispensing of chemotherapy and other medication.

Patient medication data can also be sent straight to My Health Record, enabling patients and health professionals to view a complete prescription history.
