Four calling MUCCs (to go)

2 minute read

Queensland’s last two Medicare urgent care clinics open today and tomorrow, as 31 December approaches.

Queensland’s promised contingent of 11 Medicare urgent care clinics will be completed with the opening of the Townsville location today and the Cairns clinic tomorrow.

The Townsville MUCC is hosted by the Eastbrooke Family Clinic and is designed to ease the pressure on Townsville University Hospital, where 35% of presentations are for non-urgent or semi-urgent care.

The Cairns MUCC is run by the Balance! Edmonton Family Practice in the south of the city and will assist Cairns Hospital to deal with the 35% of its presentations that are for non-urgent or semi-urgent care.

The two final Queensland clinics join Bundaberg, Gold Coast, Rockhampton, Ipswich, Logan, Murrumba Downs, Brisbane Northside, Brisbane South, and Toowoomba.

There are now just 4 four more MUCCs to be opened by 31 December to fulfill the Albanese government’s promise to deliver 58 operational clinics this year.

Three other clinics have been announced but are yet to treat a patient.

Lake Haven MUCC near Newcastle was “hoping” to be open today, according to a spokesperson last week, although there has been no announcement from the government so far.

Broome MUCC in WA will be open in “late December” according to a spokesperson, with hours of 8am-4pm seven days a week.

Morphett Vale MUCC in south Adelaide will open on 28 December, 8am-7pm Monday to Friday, and 8am-3pm on weekends.

One other clinic is yet to have any details announced.
