The data company established an interoperable cloud solution using the engine to allow more accurate KPI monitoring for a 60-bed ED in just eight weeks.
Global data company InterSystems has confirmed its healthcare integration engine has been used by specialist emergency telemedicine provider My Emergency Doctor to establish a virtual overnight supervision service with digital board rounds at a 60-bed emergency department at a major suburban hospital.
Implemented as a “pay-as-you-grow” service within the hospital, the HealthShare Health Connect Cloud engine was selected given its compatibility with HL7’s FHIR standards with an additional enterprise grade, scalable FHIR server, while its “efficient streamlined approach” meant it was better suited to manage the demands associated with the size of the hospital’s ED, the announcement said.
In addition to facilitating faster virtual communication between ED clinicians and specialists, implementing the Connect Cloud engine will also allow for more accurate monitoring for key performance indicators such as length of stay within the hospital.
The Connect Cloud system was also selected for its capacity to bolster interoperability across My Emergency Doctors’ other telemedicine services, allowing the company to expand its services to “larger and more sophisticated healthcare providers”, with ongoing support for system maintenance provided via specialist software company and InterSystems partner Fluffy Spider Technologies.

“Now that we have completed the first HL7 integration, we can expand it to multiple customers. And we can integrate with FHIR® or use the InterSystems FHIR Server to create a FHIR repository as well.”
