A maternity ward at Northern Beaches Hospital will be host to Gladiator-star Russell Crowe’s new movie – and it seems some are not entertained.

A ward in the Northern Beaches Hospital in northern Sydney will be host to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood as the set of Russell Crowe’s new MMA action film.

The hospital’s provider Healthscope insists there will be no impact on patient care and that any staff involvement on set will be voluntary.

Maternity ward 2C will be used as a set for one day and one day only, Healthscope told Health Services Daily.

Reporting from 9news suggested that the ward would be closed for the filming. But Healthscope told HSD that there would be no closure of beds or wards due to the filming and that ward 2C was only used if required during busy periods.

“Due to lower birth numbers and to provide the right skills and staffing mix to ensure our patients receive the best possible care, we have consolidated maternity beds into Ward 2A,” said the spokesperson.

“Ward 2C is used as required for maternity or other overnight patients during busy periods.”

The site will host cast and crew of Beast in Me, which will star Russell Crowe and Daniel MacPherson.

Healthscope told HSD that there would be no impact to care or operations.

“Filming requests are only granted where they can be accommodated with no disruption to patient care, patient privacy or hospital operations,” said the spokesperson.

“There will be no impact on staff parking access as a result of filming.

“Any staff involvement with the film crew or filming will be minimal and entirely voluntary.”

Filming has occurred once before at the hospital, although Healthscope would not provide details.

HSD has surmised that it was unlikely Gladiator or L.A. Confidential.

A Beautiful Mind is a current front runner, although they must have remodelled.
