Don’t blink or you’ll miss it. Queensland Health opens its latest attempt to take pressure of emergency departments.

With little fanfare, Queensland Health has opened its sixth satellite hospital – this one at Eight Mile Plains in Brisbane’s south.

Opened on Monday, the facility includes a minor injury and illness clinic open seven days a week from 8am to 10pm for walk-in care for illnesses and injuries “not anticipated to be life-threatening”.

Other services available by appointment only include kidney dialysis and related services, a   cancer day unit, outpatient medical services, and nursing and allied health services.

A total of seven satellite hospitals will be operational when the last on the ticket – Bribie Island – opens later this year.

Eight Mile Plains Satellite Hospital is run by Metro South HHS.

Data from the first five satellite hospitals – Caboolture, Ripley, Redlands, Tugun and Kallangur – were included on the Queensland Health Hospitals Performance website for the first time in February.
