Outer regions of the city will join the network later this year.
eHealth NSW’s clinical device notification platform is now operating successfully across 12 metropolitan hospitals and will be expanded to outer Sydney in the second half of this year.
The CDNP and Corpuls device is a state-of-the-art cardiac monitor, defibrillator and transmission platform which allows paramedics, hospitals and emergency departments to access real-time patient data to inform care in transit.
The system was initially trialled in the Illawarra region and was rolled out in Sydney in April, with 12 hospitals across the city completing the rollout this week.
One of the unique elements of the rollout has been the use of Corpuls for what clinicians at Nepean call “internal missions”.
This means that any patient, whether presenting to an emergency department in person or via ambulance, will have an ECG taken with results captured and accessible on the one platform. Cardiologists within the hospital are alerted to the ECG via Corpuls.
This technique has received high praise from Nepean cardiologists, who had previously either given out their mobile numbers to staff or juggled multiple notification platforms to get ECG results.
Registered nurse Cameron Jaworski and his colleague, Diah Russell, were responsible for the planning and training to ensure all healthcare staff were proficient in using the new equipment.
“Corpuls provides an in-app feature for audio calls and will soon timestamp calls made, what time ECGs were uploaded and more. It simultaneously alerts everyone that needs to know the result,” they said.
“Before the go-live date, we achieved a 100% education rate, which was crucial for a smooth transition.”
This was achieved through a combination of structured training sessions and up-to-the-minute educational efforts to ensure that even newly onboarded clinicians were adequately trained.
