She also adds two more portfolios – Finance and the Public Service – to her collection.

Rachel Stephen-Smith has retained the health and mental health portfolios as ACT chief minister Andrew Barr rearranged the deckchairs in Canberra.

Ms Stephen-Smith will also be part of a new economics team, adding the Finance and Public Service portfolios to her responsibilities.

“I’ve been involved in government in various ways for a very long time and I am absolutely committed to ensuring that taxpayers’ money is used to the best possible effect for the people of the ACT,” said Ms Stephen-Smith, talking to the Canberra Times this afternoon.

“But that doesn’t mean cutting public service jobs.”

Mr Barr also created a cabinet subcommittee focused on delivering infrastructure projects, including the long-awaited new hospital at Bruce.

Suzanne Orr will be minister for Disability, Carers and Community Services, as well as minister for Seniors and Veterans, in the new cabinet.
