GPs using MedicalDirector will have new options to complete up to 11 hours of CPD per year.

Telstra Health’s MedicalDirector practice management software has launched a new feature allowing GPs to collect CPD points for management of patients with type 2 diabetes.

The activity itself is embedded into MedicalDirector as part of the workflow; GPs that opt in receive pop-up messages for eligible patients with a call-to-action related to CPD and are then directed to lodge their hours via MedicalDirector Clinical.

Doctors will also be able to access on-demand, CPD-eligible webinars and automatically submit their CPD hours to the RACGP directly through the MedicalDirector software.

According to Telstra Health, the RACGP-approved type 2 diabetes activity will be worth up to 11 hours of CPD across the measuring outcomes and educational activities components.

“The Royal Australian College of GPs is committed to the best possible continuing professional development for our members so that they can continuously improve their skills and knowledge base,” RACGP president Dr Michael Wright said.

“With Telstra Health’s activity, GPs across Australia can receive helpful prompts highlighting CPD learning opportunities.

“This approach helps GPs focus on doing what they do best – providing the highest possible standard of patient care to people in communities nation-wide.”

Telstra Health clinical director Dr Janice Tan said MedicalDirector was uniquely positioned as a CPD provider.

“With the new tools available in MedicalDirector, we have made it easier for GPs to earn hours while maintaining the regulatory integrity of their CPD-hour collection,” she said.

“Its’ integration into daily patient care makes it convenient and effective.”

Telstra Health is a major CPD partner with the RACGP.

Under new rules introduced by the Medical Board of Australia, all doctors must do 50 hours of CPD each year, including 25 hours reviewing performance and measuring outcomes, 12.5 hours of traditional learning and 12.5 hours of free choice activity.
