The $47m hub includes the recently expanded WA Virtual Emergency Department.

Western Australia has opened its State Health Operations Centre, a centralised hub bringing together key emergency services under one roof.

The $47 million centre is part of the state government’s $827 million commitment to improving access to emergency care.

One of the services within the SHOC is the WA Virtual Emergency Department which has recently been expanded to allow metropolitan patients aged 16 and over, to be seen virtually in their own home.

Regional patients will continue to benefit from the Emergency Telehealth Service, also to be co-located in SHOC.

“The establishment of the State Health Operations Centre and co-location of these health functions is a significant development in my government’s plan to bolster access to crucial emergency and health care services in Western Australia,” said premier Roger Cook.

“This reflects our commitment to enhancing health care infrastructure and ensuring Western Australians receive the highest standard of care, no matter where they are in the state.”

Also housed within SHOC are components from the Department of Health, WA Country Health Service Command Centre, Royal Flying Doctor Service, St John WA, and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
