The winners of the 2024 eHealth NSW Awards were announced earlier this week, recognising individuals and teams in areas such as excellence, patient safety, and innovation.

The Partnering for Patient or Staff Experience Award was awarded to the Cardiac AI team, who, together with UNSW’s Centre for Big Data Research and the South Eastern Sydney LHD, have developed a dashboard to identify patients who are at risk of heart failure and further cardiac events.

“Information about heart failure patients and services is often really time consuming to find and act on, and that can delay decision making and treatment for patients,” said team member Sarah Craig.

“The dashboard will be used by hospital administrators to make strategic decisions about heart failure patient care and clinicians to make decisions about the care that they’re delivering to patients.”

The NSW Medicines Formulary Platform Service took home the Partnering for Patient Safety award after developing a digital platform that simplified medication-related workflows and audits, consolidating 44 individually managed formularies into one state-wide platform.

“Health and safety is a core value for NSW Health initiatives. By reforming the use of medications in public hospitals, we ensure the consistent access to medications for all our patients across the state,” said project manager Jane Tyan.

The Pioneering Innovation award went to the Strategy and Innovation team for their work on the Sexual Behaviour – Context and Response Tool (SB CaRT), which was developed in response to the 2017 Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The tool helps NSW Health employees to identify and respondr to harmful sexual behaviours in children and young people.

The Celebrating Excellence award went to Geoff Neve (Technology Manager, Corporate Applications, and Service Delivery), for leading the migration of various healthcare applications to the cloud.

“As part of our work, we usually come under a lot of crises, [such as] technical issues [and] outages,” said Rego Oreif, who nominated Mr Neve for the award.

“Geoff usually keeps a cool head under the crisis, which makes us feel supported and confident during these times.”

Mona Thind (Director, Strategy Investment, Strategy and Architecture) received the Living the Values award for her efforts in promoting an inclusive, respectful, and supportive workplace as the chair of the eHealth NSW Diversity council.

“I am so proud of the people I work with on that council, they are such amazing people and that is such a highlight. If we collaborate and respect each other, then we have an amazing ability to empower people,” Ms Thind said.
